Advanced Tattoo Art (How-To Secrets from the Masters)
Buy Advanced Tattoo Art at Amazon

Product Description

No longer the domain of bikers and sailors, tattoos can now be found decorating the skin of soccer moms and white-collar executives. Tattoo art has emerged from the garage to the parlor, from the local bar to the board room. With interest in tattoos at an all-time high, the time is right for a detailed look at the art and artists who create the elaborate designs. Advanced Tattoo Art takes the reader inside the shops of ten well-known and very experienced artists spread across the country. Detailed photo sequences follow each artist through one project, from the customer's concept to the finished and colorful design. Both a how-to book and a photo-intense look at the world or tattoos, Advanced Tattoo Art includes interviews with the artists that explain not only how they do what they do, but why they create the designs.

It's NO SECRET, January 23, 2007
By  M. S. Miller (Plains, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

This book is a joke...There are NO Secrets to be learned here. It is written by someone who knows nothing about Tattooing and even less about telling you how to do anything. All it is is a bunch of in series photos of tattooing with a small explanation (nothing informative)with each photo, and you learn nothing from it at all. My Opinion...A TOTAL WASTE OF PAPER! Tells nothing about what you need to know to be able to do the same kind of work, which, by the way was about 75% garbage work and maybe 25% talent. Overall I wouldn't waste your money on this one! If I could give it minus stars for a rating I would.

A scratcher's paradise, April 10, 2007

I personally cannot believe that a few of the artists in this book gave their o.k. to the author of this book. Most of the tattooers have no business trying to teach anything. I believe that if I were going to do this type of book, I'd take a little more time to get with better artists doing cooler tattoos. Even the Capo piece is lacking....it looks like he gave up on the clothes after spending too much time on the face. All in all, if you are a basement tattooer with no prior knowledge, you'll probably learn enough to really scar someone....if you're a professional tattooer with $17 to buy the book, then you probably already tattoo at least as well as anyone in the book. Its worth a read just for a laugh!

Save your money, February 17, 2007

The title of this book is completely misleading. Your money would be better spent with a subscription to "Tattoo" or "Flash" magazine. There is no how-to information, and the various write ups on the tattoos are highly repetative (two of the pictures even have the same caption). On top of everything it is poorly written, and the author clearly knows little about the art of tattooing. It reads as though it was written by a 13 year old boy who worships his local tattooist. The book is now being used to level an old coffee table I have.

No real technical info is given here. Your better off purchasing the three tattoo mags you could have bought instead of this. Nice sequential pictures though.

This book is a joke…There are NO Secrets to be learned here. It is written by someone who knows nothing about Tattooing and even less about telling you how to do anything. All it is is a bunch of in series photos of tattooing with a small explanation (nothing informative)with each photo, and you learn nothing from it at all. My Opinion…A TOTAL WASTE OF PAPER! Tells nothing about what you need to know to be able to do the same kind of work, which, by the way was about 75% garbage work and maybe 25% talent. Overall I wouldn’t waste your money on this one! If I could give it minus stars for a rating I would.

I personally cannot believe that a few of the artists in this book gave their o.k. to the author of this book. Most of the tattooers have no business trying to teach anything. I believe that if I were going to do this type of book, I’d take a little more time to get with better artists doing cooler tattoos. Even the Capo piece is lacking….it looks like he gave up on the clothes after spending too much time on the face. All in all, if you are a basement tattooer with no prior knowledge, you’ll probably learn enough to really scar someone….if you’re a professional tattooer with $17 to buy the book, then you probably already tattoo at least as well as anyone in the book. Its worth a read just for a laugh!

The title of this book is completely misleading. Your money would be better spent with a subscription to “Tattoo” or “Flash” magazine.

“I don’t think you or most of the self-proclaimed socialists here have any idea what socialism is. You’re describing something like a “social-welfare democracy,” which is basically a capitalist economy (private ownership) with some level of taxation to invest in human capital, infrastructure, provide a social safety net, and fund other public services. Socialism as a political and economic doctrine explicitly refers to public or collectivized ownership or property, especially of the “means of production.” None of the European, American, or relatively wealthy & advanced nations practices “actual socialism.” Canada and England are pretty close in the medical sector ONLY, and other European countries are “less socialist” in that they allow more private-sector competition within a universal framework. Marx pretty much uses socialism and communism inter-changeably; its only recently that Americans have begun misusing it to refer to any kind of welfare program. The Republicans started it to…”

Microsoft has applied for a neat patent for a smart inductive charger (via Being Manan). Inductive charging, used for example in the Palm Pre’s Touchstone, allows for contactless charging of devices in close proximity. The charger couples inductive charging with an LCD screen that can be used to show off “weather conditions, sports scores, news headlines, and/or other selected items” through a wireless connection to a PC. More useful, I would think, would be some indication of the charging status of the device. Image from the patent application showing the basic design of the device Apparent pictures of a prototype of the device have emerged. Though we can’t be certain that it uses the patented technology, the prototype is all but identical to the design shown in the patent, suggesting that development is quite far advanced. The prototype is shown charging a wireless mouse. This seems a rather mundane use for such a fancy charger, and the thing is rather smaller than might be…

    Look at paintings for inspiration.

Centuries ago artists were making fabulous compositions. The rules haven't changed so don't overlook painting.

Also, don't overlook the photo magazines and take an interest in the photo competitions and study the winning entries.
