Thinking of getting a tattoo..what do you think of this idea?

Ok, I am 17, and a girl, and I have been thinking about getting a tattoo. I wont get one until October (when I turn 18) which is in about 8 months, but I wanted to start thinking about it now. I have always liked the idea of getting a tattoo, and I was thinking of a small hummingbird or maybe a dragonfly on one of my shoulder blades. First of all: what do you guys think about tattoos in general? Secondly: online drugs without prescription what do you think when you see teenage girls with tattoos? Would you think worse of me for having a tattoo?
(Im just wondering because I was looking around online for information etc on tattoos, and a lot of people seem to be of the opinion that tattoos make you look common etc. I was not sure however if they meant tattoos in general, 'slag tags' and 'tramp stamps', or just all tattoos, so I want to know peoples general opinions!)
